What CD-R's do you use?

Our CD-R's

  • We do not use unbranded CD-R disks.

  • At present we only use Octron branded disks, 16X write and 24X write. Under cdrao they are listed as "Short Strategy Type", e.g. Phthalocyanine disks, and they list the manufacturer as Ritek.co. They should work in most CD drives and nearly all DVD drives.

  • Each comes in its own slim jewel case, not cheap cardboard sleeves.

  • We currently write our disks at 8 speed, track at once, or disk at once, using xcdroast on our Libranet 2.7 linux box. How to do this - you can find out more here at Rxx Xxx.

  • We affix a printed face label to each disk, (similar to the Creative Changes Linux CD's image below) which helps protect the CD-R. The risk of scratching the unprotected recording layer of CD-Rs is considerably reduced by the full-face label I apply to each CD.

  • Linux Cd's and DVD's from Creative changes

  • Disks are sent out in a secure envelope marked "CD Disks -- Please Do Not Bend". As stated, all disks come in their own strong plastic jewel case (not cheap cardboard covers).
    • Remember to look after your disks

As with any CD-R media, treat the disks properly if you want them to last. CD-R recording is done by briefly heating the dye layer with a laser. Therefore, do not store the disks where they could be subject to sunlight or direct heat.

Because these disks are CD-Rs, they cannot be absolutely guaranteed to be compatible with your CD-ROM drive. They should work fine in most modern CD-ROM drives and practically any CD writer or DVD drive.

      Precautions

-Store the CD-R in its protective jewel case or any other suited CD cover. To prevent warping or any other accidental damage to the recorded data,do not leave the CD-R in direct sunlight or in a hot, humid location.

Avoid contact with benzene, lacquer thinner,anti-static agents or LP record cleaners as they may damage the recording surface. Protect the recording surface from dust, fingerprints, dirt and scratches.

In order to ensure successful data saving, edge and recording surface of the CD-R must be undamaged. When labelling a CD-R for identification purposes, write on the imprinted index side, using only a felt tip waterproof marker. Hard or scratching writing instruments such as ball-point pens or similar may damage the protective layer and jeopardise the data safety. Use only special CD labels. Other stickers, labels or protective wraps are not suited for use.

For cleaning purposes, use a soft, dry, non-fluffing cloth with a few drops of ethyl-alcohol.

However I can't take responsibility if they get damaged in transit.

Guarantee:

We offer a 100% guarantee of satisfaction for each and every disk we send out. If you are not entirely happy with your order please return the disks within 90 days for a full refund less postage and packing, we can't be fairer than that can we now?

Although we have some experience of Linux and the various distributions available, we are unable to provide you with any support for installing and using our disks.

We would suggest you always back up important data before proceeding.

There is a wealth of information and help available on most install disks and the Internet, please see our links page.

Remember you have not paid for any user support, so please don't go e-mailing the various organisations who provide these Linux distributions. They will not be happy.

If you feel you want lots of support, order your distribution from the supplier themselves, at full supported cost.

Note: If your machine is having trouble booting from the install disk, and you have set your machine to boot from CD Rom, you may have a CD which is faulty. While this is very unlikely as we check each disk before despatch, if you feel you have a faulty disk, please return them within 90 days for a replacement or full refund, less postage.
